Fire cider is a must-have in my kitchen, especially when the weather turns chilly. I love how it packs a punch—whether I’m taking it straight as a wellness shot, mixing it into my soups for an extra zing, or using it to jazz up a salad. It’s one of my fav secret weapons for keeping the immune system strong, with a flavor that wakes up your taste buds and warms you from the inside out.

Whether you’re fending off a cold or want to add great immune support to your fall and winter meals, fire cider has you covered

Fire Cider with Turmeric

Ingredients: (Use organic ingredients when possible)
1 red onion
1 jalapeno pepper
1 oz garlic (10 medium-sized cloves)
2 oz ginger root (about 3-5 inches)
3 oz turmeric root (about 3-5 inches)
4 oz horseradish root (about 3-5 inches)
1/2 tsp. black peppercorns
1 small lemon
1/2 medium orange
Apple cider vinegar

Instructions:

• Chop the onion, slice the pepper, and mince the garlic.
• Peel and grate the horseradish, ginger, and turmeric. (If the ginger and turmeric are fairly fresh and thin-skinned, you may just need to scrub really well and lightly peel some spots.)
• Slice the lemon and orange.
• Layer all in a wide-mouth quart glass jar.
• Add 1/2 tsp. black peppercorns.
• Fill the jar with apple cider vinegar, making sure it covers all the ingredients.
• Cover with a plastic or metal canning jar lid and close tightly. If using a metal jar lid, place a piece of parchment paper in between the vinegar and the lid.
• Store in a dark cupboard for about 4 to 6 weeks, turning upside down once or twice during this period to “stir” the ingredients.
• The fire cider is ready when the liquid has slightly darkened and the veggies are translucent. Depending on storage temperature, this could be as soon as 3 weeks.

Ways to Use Fire Cider:

• Wellness Shot – Take 1-2 Tbsp in a small shot glass, adding honey to sweeten if you like!
• Add to Soups – Add to soup for a delicious tang and health kick.
• Mix with Juice – Mixing 1-2 Tbsp into ½ cup or so freshly squeezed juice.
• As a Salad Dressing – Combine 2 Tbsp fire cider, 1 Tbsp balsamic vinegar, and 3 Tbsp olive oil to make a simple and healthy vinaigrette.
